Abstract:
"This study investigated and compared nondisabled eight grade students' attitudes towards the inclusion of their peers with disabilities in two high schools on Tortola , Virgin Islands (UK). A 36-item questionnaire was used to determine their attitudes. The population was selected based on the grade level of the students. In both schools, the average class size is approximately 25 students. The sample consisted of 75 students, 40 from the Elmore Stout High School and 38 from BVI Seventh-day Adventist High School. Two hypotheses were tested and three research questions were examined. The independent sample t-test was done to indicate whether there was a significant difference between 8th grade male and female students' attitudes towards the inclusion of their peers with disabilities. The test was also conducted to determine what attitudes nondisabled eight graders at both types of school hold towards the inclusion of their peers with disabilities. Frequencies and percentages were used to compare the overall attitudes of the eight-grade non-disabled students. The results revealed that students have a positive attitude toward their peers with disabilities"
