|a "Many species of fish associated with coral reefs and other mosaic ecosystem utilize multiple habitat types through daily movements, and it is likely that these movement patterns are influenced by the composition and spatial configuration of the seascape within their home ranges. Precisely determining diel schedules of fish movement and obtaining spatiallyy and temporally accurate, fine-scale habitat utilizatiion data has proven difficult to accomplish in marine environments and has spurred investigators to incorporate theories and methods well established in other scientific disciplines. In this thesis, I endeavored to improve our understanding of complex species-habitat interactions by tracking individuals of two ecologically and commercially importantfs and speies, Haemulon sciurus and Lutjanus apodus across U.S. Virgin Islands seascapes." |
