520 3    |a In the Caribbean, as in other small island developing states (SIDS), vulnerabilities to climatic forces are profound, and the need for strengthened capacity to build climate resilient communities is urgent. The impacts of climate change, forecasted to worsen in the future, are threatening lives, livelihoods, food supply, ecosystems, and ecosystem services in the Caribbean region. Environmental stewardship is manifested in the management of marine protected areas (MPAs), recognized globally for enhancing the resilience of marine ecosystems to the impacts of climate change. Collaborative arrangements are the recommended approaches to governance of MPAs in the Caribbean; without the necessary collaborative skills and processes, conflict and inefficiencies are prevalent. Because creativity was linked to solving complex 21st century problems, this study was designed to assess the impact of creativity training on an MPA comanagement group in a SIDS. The comanagement group was selected using the quota sampling method, and results of the pretest posttest study indicated creativity training had a significant impact on the group's collaborative and creative processes. The findings of this study should encourage the use of creativity training in SIDS to help MPA comanagers collaborate more effectively and develop creative solutions to the complex climatic problems that they must face.
