Notes

Abstract:
Bluebeard's Tower was built in 1689, on St. Thomas, V.I., by the Danes. It was one of the earliest fortifications for the protection of the harbor because its accomodation invited early pirates, who were trading loot and hiding out. From these activities the tower acquired the name in early maritime lore.
