Abstract:
Named after a former Secretary of the Interior, Wayne Aspinall, this bay area was filled in with sand from a harbor dredging operation. It became the site for the pre-assembled reinforced concrete showcase Wayne Aspinall Junior High School, the present-day Adelita Cancryn Junior High School. Container-barges berth in the bay that houses the Tropical Shipping Complex, and the U.S. Customs for freight cargo. In the 1940s, this bayside passage enabled U.S. Navy submarines to backdoor into the Submarine Base. The 1965 underwater archaeological expedition by Jacques Costeau, for Spanish coins; and the NASA underwater training on St. John, made the U.S. Virgin Islands an underwater frontier, complimenting its promising tourism attractions.
